06/04/2013: Kildysart had an easy win at home in Round 2 of the O’Gorman Cup beating Doonbeg 2-16 to 0-7 in the sunshine, wind and rain of Storm Kathleen. The Blues have likely done enough to earn a place in the final with a round to spare, being the only team on two wins. All other teams have recorded a loss with today's match between Miltown and Naomh Eoin not played due to pitch conditions.
Doonbeg won the toss and chose to play against the strong breeze. Kildysart raced out of the blocks and had three points on the board in the first five minutes. Ryan Casey and Conor Moloney kept Doonbeg from setting up any meaningful scoring chances. Kildysart continued unabated putting another 1-3 on the board, with the major coming from Luke McGrath, before Doonbeg got their first score in the 26th minute. Kildysart tacked on three more points and Doonbeg a free to leave the score at the break, Kildysart 1-9 to Doonbeg 0-2.
With a scattering of nine scorers on the day, Kildysart continued to plough on into the wind and showed no signs of letting up. Kildysart added five more points and led 1-14 to 0-5 with 55 minutes played. Then Jack Cotter caught a high ball in front of the square and passed off to Keith Murphy. Bomber took one bounce to draw the keeper and then fired it past him at close range. Both sides finished off with 2 more scores each giving the home team a 15-point win, Kildysart 2-16 to Doonbeg 0-7 (2f). Referee Pat Keane.
Next up for the seniors is Cusack Cup round 3 at home to KIB on Saturday 13th April at 5pm. Round 3 of the O’Gorman Cup takes place over the May weekend when the team travels to Miltown.
