Cusack Cup Last Round Preview:
With so much at stake, all the final round matches are now scheduled for the Bank Holiday Monday at 1pm. The lineup is as follows: Breckans (2 pts) host KIB (7 pts), Barefield (6 pts) hosts Miltown (9 pts), Clondegad (2 pts) hosts Lissycasey (8 pts) and Kildysart (4 pts) host Ennistymon (10 pts).
It’s all in Kildysart’s hands to retain their division 1 status when they play Ennistymon, who suffered their first defeat away to Miltown on Monday evening. A win or a draw for Kildysart and they stay in the Cusack Cup.
In addition, Kildysart can still retain their Division 1 status with any of the following scenarios:
In addition, Kildysart can still retain their Division 1 status with any of the following scenarios:
· Kildysart lose, Breckans and Clondegad both draw
· Kildysart lose, Breckans and Clondegad both win. The three teams would be level on 4 points but Kildysart would have the highest league points from the matches played between the three teams. Kildysart have 3 league points based on their win over Clondegad and draw with Breckans. Clondegad have 2 league points from their win over Breckans, who would have 1 point based on their draw with Kildysart.
· Kildysart lose, Breckans lose and Clondegad win as Kildysart won the head-to-head.
The danger scenario is if Kildysart loses, Breckans wins and Clondegad loses as it then comes down to points difference due to the draw between Kildysart and Breckans. Currently, Kildysart is at -9 and Breckans at -16.
At the other end of the table, Ennistymon, Miltown, Lissycasey and KIB are all battling it out for the top 3 spots. A win for Ennistymon means they will be defending their title. Wins for Miltown and Lissycasey will secure semi-final spots for both, but KIB is still in with a chance if those results don’t come to pass.
But none of this will matter come throw in at 1pm on Monday as each team will just play to win.
