01/04/2023: Goals made the difference today allowing Clondegad to regain bragging rights for this year’s Estuary Derby. Kildysart started off brightly and were ahead three points to nil by the 10th minute with scores from Conor Hasset, Kieran O’Brien, and Keith Murphy – whose point-blank shot on goal was pushed over for a point in the opening minutes. However, Clondegad got the measure of the game and ran at Kildysart, racking up 1-6, (penalty) without reply. With 5 minutes of the first half remaining, Kildysart rallied again and with a point from Luke McGrath and 3 frees from Conor Hassett, had narrowed the deficit to a single score at the halftime whistle, Kildysart 0-7, Clondegad 1-7.
The third quarter is a dangerous one and usually dictates the game’s outcome and today was no different with Clondegad raising two more green flags by the turn of the quarter, Kildysart 0-9, Clondegad 3-8. Some very difficult frees from Conor Hassett were keeping Kildysart in touch but they weren’t able to make any inroads to the deficit. Final score: Kildysart 0-13, Clondegad 3-10. Referee John O’Connell.
