31/05/2023: While we are happy with the progress of the project in general, the grass growth has been impacted by very rainy weather in March and April and now also the dry spell that we have been having. All this impacts the grass's development both above and below the soil. When we started this project, the best estimate for the pitch reopening was 12 months from seeding, which took place in June 2022. However, based on advice from our consultant, the grass will not be ready by the end of June/early July due to the combination of adverse weather from March onwards. The latest forecast is for a mid-August opening, which is also dependent on the weather conditions between now and then. The Field Development Committee aims to deliver a usable and sustainable pitch and that is the main focus of its decisions. Meanwhile, activity is ramping up on the ancillary works of drainage on the hill and erecting the fencing. The backstops should be installed soon and the goalposts have been delivered.
We understand that members, parents, supporters, and especially our players, are anxiously waiting for the pitch to reopen and we are moving as fast as we can to deliver that, subject to the weather which is out of our control. We thank everyone for their patience and also thank our neighbouring clubs, Kildysart Soccer, St. John Bosco Community College, and Clare GAA for the use of their pitches during our development.
Special thanks to Johnny Murtagh for the photos taken last weekend, which are absolutely amazing. Plus Johnny's photo from the start of the development is shown below. The biggest visible change is that the training area is now flat to the pitch at the Lab end of the field and space has been left for a walkway. Can't wait until our teams are playing on it. #Kildysart
