09/06/2023: Kildysart/Coolmeen U15s eased to victory this evening with a 7-13 to 2-5 victory over Gaels/Kilmihil. This Division 2-3 fixture was supposed to be the last fixture before the semi-final pairings were known. However, it was decided by Coiste na nOg Peil to add quarter-finals to the competition, with the aim being to provide more games and both the U15 & U13 schedule could accommodate it.

Kildysart/Coolmeen played some excellent football this evening and while Gaels/Kilmihil quickly got on the scoreboard by bagging a goal in the opening minutes, Kildysart/Coolmeen went on a scoring rampage and led at the end of the first quarter by 2-6 to 1-2. Kildysart/ Coolmeen defense, anchored by the strong spine of James Casey, Darragh Murtagh and Ben Sheehan, made scores hard to come by for Gaels/Kilmihil. Kildysart/Coolmeen added another goal and 2 points by halftime to lead at the break 3-8 to 2-4.

With the breeze at their backs, Kildysart/Coolmeen continued to raid and turning into the fourth quarter were leading by 6-10 to 2-5. It was a very strong end-to-end performance that ended with 7 goals and 13 points to Gaels/Kilmihil’s 2-5.

Kildysart/Coolmeen finished second in group 2 on 10 points, 1 point behind the table toppers Kilmurry Ibrickane, with Cooraclare taking third place with their win over the Banner this evening, who finish in fourth place. Group 1 is a very tight affair with three teams in joint first on 10 points, separated only by points difference: Clarecastle tops this group with +46, St Breckans with +35, Clooney/Quin with +25, and Wolfetones finish fourth on 6 points.

Though the two groups started out as Division 2-3, Kildysart/Coolmeen will face Clooney/Quin in the Division 2 Quarter Final by virtue of the second-place finish. The Qtr Final is next Tuesday (13th June), with the venue and time to be confirmed. The semi-finals are scheduled for Monday 19th June at 7pm and the final is on Monday 26th June.
