20/06/2023: Here’s the latest weekly update from Kildysart GAA Club

There was a very large turnout from Kildysart and the surrounding areas as our long-serving club President, James Cleary, was laid to rest on Friday last. James will be remembered for being a family man with a strong love for the GAA and he will be missed by those who knew him. Tap here to see the club's tribute to James

What a week it’s been for results. Lots of heart-stopping “come from behind” victories.

The U12 Ladies had two home matches over the past 8 days and came away victorious in both of them. They faced Burren Gaels on Monday night last week and after falling behind by a few goals in the first half they showed their mettle and fought back to claim a 3-point victory, Kildysart 4-9, Burren Gaels 5-3. The Ladies found themselves in similar territory last night v Kilmihil and were 2 goals down early on. They fought back determinedly, limited Kilmihil to only 1 more point, and by half time Kildysart was ahead 3-3 to 2-1. The second half was a dogged affair with Kilmihil raising 2 more green flags but with a goal and a point themselves, Kildysart held on for the win, Kildysart 4-4, Kilmihil 4-2.

The Kildysart/Coolmeen U15 quarter-final win last Tuesday over Clooney Quin has to be the match of the season so far. It had everything: big margins, comebacks, a black card, extra time, and finally penalties and a big save. And huge credit to the players for never giving up and winning on penalties 4 goals to 2. After that, The Kildysart/Coolmeen U15 semi-final v Clarecastle had a lot to live up to and it did not disappoint. Kildysart/Coolmeen won out comfortably in the end, Kildysart/Coolmeen 2-8 to 0-5 but the match was closer than the score-line would suggest. Tap here for the full match report.

The Junior Men are into the Division 7 League Final in two weeks’ time after a smash-and-grab win over Miltown 0-11 to 1-7. Trailing by 5 points at the start of the final quarter, Kildysart, aided by a strong bench, got the next 6 points in a row, to send them into the final v Doora Barefield. Tap here for the full match report.

The Kildysart National School's boys team claimed the Division 2 title in Kilrush on Wednesday last by beating Miltown 5-11 to 2-6. Tap here for the full match report.

The Kildysart/Coolmeen Academy U15’s had a home victory over Kilrush/Kilimer on Monday last, 5-12 to 6-7. The team has won 4 and lost two and play their final round v Eire Og this evening (Tuesday) in Coolmeen at 7pm.

Fixtures:

The U15 Academy boys are hosting Eire Og this evening Tuesday 20th in Coolmeen at 7pm.

The U13 boys start their Division 1 championship campaign with a home match v Clooney/Quin on Saturday 24th June at a time TBC.

The U9 boys head to Ennistymon on Saturday for their Round 7 blitz and will be playing against Ennistymon, Banner & Kilmhil.
