26/06/2023: The Kildysart/Coolmeen U15s gave a tremendous account of themselves in the final this evening but came up against tough opposition in St. Breckans, who won out by a score line of 5-08 to 0-11. The Kildysart/Coolmeen team is a talented group of lads who showed their mettle during the round-robin matches and even more so in the knockout stages. Having won the U14 C division last year, it was a great achievement to reach the B Cup and the team should be proud of their performance this evening.

Breckans got off to a bright start with three unanswered points in the first 6 minutes. Then Kildysart /Coolmeen moved Aidan Murrihy to a sweeper role and this had an immediate effect and allowed Kildysart/Coolmeen to start their attacking play. Points from play from Kelan Casey and Liam Casey narrowed the gap and a well-taken free from an acute angle from Oran Meaney leveled the match at three points apiece with 20 minutes elapsed on the clock. Breckans came into a purple patch and plundered for three goals before the half to lead at the break, Kildysart/Coolmeen 0-3, St. Breckans 3-3.

Kildysart/Coolmeen regrouped after the break and when Oran Meaney won the breaking ball, he raced forward and slotted over for a point. Liam Casey followed with a slicer that landed between the posts before Oran Meaney’s free cut the deficit to 6 within the first 3 minutes. The backs, led by James Casey and Siney Neenan, were steadfast in their defense but the Lisdoon outfit was relentless. They raided again and by the turn of the 4th quarter, Kildysart/Coolmeen were trailing by 4-6 to 0-7. Kildysart/Coolmeen never gave up and the display of teamwork and work rate was evident to the large following in the stands. Points from Ben Sheehan x2, a free from Meaney, and a point from Aidan Murrihy were cancelled out by another goal and a point from Breckans to give Breckans the win, 5-08 to 0-11. Congratulations to the team and management on an excellent season and we look forward to more great football next year.
